My name is Nathan Wise, and I’m a schizophrenic.
I do not like to measure myself by my defeats, but rather by what I have and can still do. I’m in my late 20’s, but I’ve been fighting the disease since 2016, when it forced me to withdraw from college due to my paranoia. I had several voices all talking in my mind. These voices talk nonstop, never giving me a break. As you can imagine, it's impossible to do much of anything, and I can be completely debilitated at times.
If it's any consolation, schizophrenia often occurs in extremely intelligent people. An example of such intelligence is Eduard Einstein, youngest child of Albert Einstein.
Sort of the universe’s kind of backhanded compliment for having intelligence.
I was very unproductive in the years following my diagnosis. Eventually, I learned how to cope with a disease that slowly and systematically crippled my social skills. Before enduring all this madness, I was a very active individual. A varsity cross country runner, lifeguard, Eagle Scout, Ski Patroller, EMT, avid reader and conversationalist.
These are the successes that I use to comfort myself on my worst days, as mental illness is so destructive.

Which brings us to today.
Although it’s been quite some time since those first strange voices started following me, I still have good and bad days. Then it hit me. With my social skills slowly returning, I could reach out to the world and inspire others to confront their disease.
Lastly, please feel free comment on my articles.
Thank you,
Nate Wise
